Description:
Sentinel-1 is a radar satellite that works both day and night and can see through the clouds and is, therefore, an excellent source of data for monitoring changes in agricultural land. New Sentinel-1 images help find the answer to what is happening in the fields of interest almost immediately. Moreover, the images are also well-suited for resolving historical questions where the evidence is needed for a particular period, as the continuity and density of the Sentinel-1 time series are not affected by the weather conditions.
The KappaOne service is designed to make Sentinel-1 Synthetic Aperture Radar (SAR) data easily accessible and ready to be used and analysed. In this service, five different Sentinel-1 ARD products are available in both human-friendly and machine-readable forms. KappaOne is a web map with a WMS feature, which could be extremely helpful for the subsidy checks under the Common Agricultural Policy (CAP). It could be valuable for planning field visits to the most problematic areas and getting an initial overview of the field before leaving the office. Moreover, it could be applicable for checking the parcels manually, where the machine learning model gives an uncertain or borderline result. Sentinel-1 images are also well suited for follow-up assessments – to check whether the applicant has rectified the deficiencies by the agreed deadline.
During this session, you will learn about KappaOne and its use case for the CAP subsidy checks through a hands-on experience.
