Description:
• MAFIS has developed EO based biomass mapping in mountain areas by using SAR in C and L bands and leveraging various AI techniques. The new technique can provide timely quantitative information about biomass growth and losses due to natural and man-made disturbances (fires, windstorms, pests, clear and selection cutting, etc.).
• MAFIS is now assessing and quantifying the ecosystem services provided by trees and green areas in the urban environment, in relation to pollution filtering, improvement of thermal comfort, reduction of rainwater runoff, making cities more pleasant and liveable.
• Combining satellite derived information with tree talkers’ data, leveraging also data-cube technology, can improve the understanding of tree health status and derive the suitable treatment and maintenance actions for better tree management and a safer environment for citizens.
