Company-Project:
Cropix - SARMAP
Description:
Sentinel-1 satellites are independent of cloud cover and daylight and measure regularly under constant conditions with constant geometry and energy.
The changes we measure are plant development.
For the operational use of products derived from satellite data in the agricultural sector, it is essential that data is continuously available. In addition to the satellite data, trained employees, software and hardware are also required for each specific application.
Ultimately the whole system depends on the availability and quality of updated information from satellite data.
We have developed indices to transform the backscatter of Sentinel-1 into a biomass index and a moisture index comparable to the NDVI and NDWI.
Due to a low measurement noise, the data is particularly suitable for time series studies and change detection.
The data can be processed automatically and integrated into a monitoring system to make them directly accessible to the different stakeholders.
In the field of precision farming and crop insurance, there are interesting application possibilities to support decision making, statistical evaluations or detection of changes or anomalies.
It is time to come up with ground touching solutions, that are easy to perceive, scalable over regions and seasons and continuously available.
